Bashkortostan is recognized as one of most active UNESCO partners among Russia regions

UFA, 22 November 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. The delegation of the Republic of Bashkortostan completed an official visit to France. The trip was timed to the 20th anniversary of the cooperation of Bashkortostan with UNESCO and the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Bashkortostan in 2019.

With the support of the Russian Commission for UNESCO at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Russian Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, an official meeting and negotiations between the Prime Minister of the Government of Bashkortostan Rustem Mardanov and the First Deputy Director-General of UNESCO Xin Qu were held. Following the meeting, a protocol was signed. The Deputy Director-General Xin Qu noted that he was familiar with the application of Bashkortostan for the inclusion of two sites in the World Heritage List: the rock paintings of the Shulgan-Tash cave and the first Geopark in the Russian Federation, “Yangan-Tau”. According to him, Bashkortostan was actively working with UNESCO and he expressed confidence that the pace of cooperation would grow every year.

Bashkortostan is one of the few partners that collaborates across the whole spectrum of the activities of the UNESCO organization: science, culture, education, said Russian Ambassador to UNESCO Alexander Kuznetsov.

Also, the Center of Science and Culture hosted roundtables devoted to the rock art in the Shulgan-Tash cave and the development of the Yangan-Tau Geopark. Over 50 experts from leading research centers in France were invited to them. Experts specifically made a selection process tough, so that only the most worthy objects could be included into it. They all assured: Bashkortostan was worthy to be in the list of world heritage.
