Long list of nominees for Ufa airport name has not changed: final vote is ahead

UFA, 1 November 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Ksenia Kalinina/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. The second stage of the “Great Names of Russia” contest has ended. According to the Public Chamber RB, about 90 thousand people took part in it. They offered different versions of the names of prominent compatriots for the 47 airports involved in the project. 11 names scored 500 or more votes and were added to the regional lists. As for the Ufa airport, its long list has not changed - the additional names did not receive the required number of votes.

As previously reported, the list of Bashkiria includes the following outstanding historical figures:

Mustai Karim, people's poet, writer;

Musa Gareev, military pilot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union;

Sergey Dovlatov, writer, journalist;

Alexander Matrosov, Hero of the Soviet Union;

Sergey Aksakov, writer;

Mikhail Nesterov, artist, painter;

Rudolf Nureyev, ballet dancer;

Salavat Yulaev, national hero;

Minigali Shaimuratov, Major General, Commander of the 112th Bashkir Cavalry Division;

Fedor Shalyapin, opera singer.

The third stage of the All-Russian campaign started on October 31. VCIOM experts will have to identify the preferences of the residents of the project regions regarding the most popular names. Three candidates for each airport named by the majority of respondents will be on the shortlist for the final vote. It will be held from November 12 to 30 this year.

The names that will be assigned to airports in Russia, including Ufa, will be announced on December 5, 2018.

The initiators of the project “The Great Names of Russia” were the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the Russian Literature Society, the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Geographical Society, and the Russian Military Historical Society. The project operator is the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.
