Bashkiria faces garbage collapse

UFA, 24 October 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. Garbage collapse threatens 19 regions of Russia, including Bashkortostan, RIA Novosti reports.
The State Duma Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection monitors the implementation of the “waste reform”. As the head of the committee Vladimir Burmatov said, as of October 17, only 12 regions of the Russian Federation fully switched to the new system of municipal waste management. 19 subjects are at risk in connection with the implementation of the new system of waste management since January 1, 2019. The list included Altai Territory, Bashkortostan, Buryatia, Moscow and Moscow Region, Kabardino-Balkaria, Krasnodar Territory, Crimea, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Komi, as well as Kaluga, Kemerovo, Kurgan, Leningrad, Magadan, Orel, Samara and Tver regions. They face garbage collapse.
The main reasons are the lack of landfills for waste disposal or the exhaustion of their capacity, as well as a sharp increase in the cost of services for the population.
Currently, there are 36 landfills in the federal register of Bashkortostan. This number does not cope with the current volumes and another nine landfills are necessary, as it was stated earlier by the Government. The capacity of the existing landfills will be enough for 1-2 years, the Ministry of Environment RB informs.
As for the single tariff, it is still not set. Basing on approximate calculations, a resident of an apartment building will have to pay approximately 96 rubles per month, an individual house - 142 rubles per month.
