UFA, 2 October 2018. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. On October 1, the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov delivered a speech at the opening of the 3rd All-Russian Forum of "Silver" Volunteers in Ufa Congress Hall.

The head of the region took part in the panel discussion "Active Longevity in Russia: Happy People - a Happy Country!", during which issues of interaction of volunteer movement participants with authorities and public organizations, development of "silver" volunteering in the regions of Russia, financial and grant support of volunteers were discussed.

Rustem Khamitov stressed that volunteering activities in recent years have become an important institution, a driving force for the development of civil society.

"The Republic of Bashkortostan actively participates in this work, is among the leaders in the country in terms of the development of the volunteer movement. Today we have about 200 volunteer associations," noted the head of the region. "Currently more than 26 thousand volunteers, including of "silver" age, are engaged in volunteering activities in the republic."

According to Rustem Khamitov, Bashkortostan is one of the first in the country to implement programs to work with citizens of the older generation.

"Since 2011, tens of thousands of pensioners have been trained in the so-called "people's universities", took part in the social tourism program, when at the expense of the republican budget we compensate trips for our veterans. The project "People's University of the Third Age" became the winner of the All-Russian competition for the "silver" volunteering centers formation. The "Silver Volunteer House" was created in the republic", the Head of the republic said.

Rustem Khamitov noted that the volunteering institute began to be formed in the republic in 2010-2011.

“Today the republic is one of the leaders in the Russian Federation in terms of volunteering activities”.
