More than 796 thousand elderly people live in Bashkiria

Of them, about 543 thousand are people at the age of 60-74 years, 238 thousand people are at the age of 75-89 years, and 15 thousand people have reached the age of long-livers (90 years and older). Bashkortostan Statistics Agency calculated elderly residents timed to the International Day of Older Persons, which is celebrated annually on October 1, 1991, in accordance with the decision of the United Nations General Assembly (UN).

In Russia, the Day of Older Persons is also celebrated on October 1 based on the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation of June 1, 1992 "On the Problems of the Elderly Persons". The purpose of the holiday is to attract public attention to the problems of elderly people.

According to the classification of the World Health Organization (WHO), the elderly are people aged 60 to 74, the old people are named people at the age of 75-89 years, long-livers - people aged 90 years and older. In accordance with the documents of the United Nations and the International Labor Organization (ILO), the elderly are people aged 60 years and over.
