Ancient horse bone was found in Bashkiria National Park

UFA, 19 September 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. The park staff found a bone of an ancient horse in the territory of the Bashkiria National Park during the volunteer clean-up.
"Horses were once the most common animals at this site, so the found bone is not a sensational finding, but the important one. It dates from the late Pleistocene, approximately 14-16 thousand years ago", commented on the researcher of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Gimranov.
In 2016, the employees of the Ural Institute together with scientists from the Institute of the History of Language and Literature of the Ufa Scientific Center RAS made unique archaeological discoveries at the National Park. A cave lions “cemetery” was found in the Imanay Cave - more than 700 bones of giant ancient cats. In September of the same year, it was managed to reconstruct a skull of the cave lion from the collected remains. Total, during the study of the cave, scientists extracted 10,000 animal bones, including rare for the Urals - porcupine, red wolf, Himalayan bear.
The "45 quarter" and the coastline in front of the gorge became other interesting places for the survey. According to the assumption of archaeologists, 16 sites with workshops of ancient men were located here 14 thousand years ago. This clearly explains the abundance and nature of the inventory made from black silicon - scrapers, chippers, flakes, tips. Bones of a woolly mammoth and primitive bison, numerous remains of an ancient horse were also found there.
A small collection of archaeological findings is stored in the museum of the National Park. Now a new exhibit will replenish it.
