Bashkiria was included in Top-15 rating of Russian regions in Western media

Following the year of 2017, Bashkiria ranked 14-15 in the mentioning rating of the Russian regions in the Western media, according to the analytical agency Smyslografiya. Foreign publications last year mentioned Bashkiria more than two thousand times. Among them, there were reputable Reuters, Dow Jones, and The Washington Post.

About one-third of the publications were devoted to the litigation of Rosneft and Bashneft with Sistema JSFC. About one-fifth of stories were connected with the participation of FC "Ufa" in the Russian Football Championship.

Ufa was mentioned in foreign media as a venue for the World Hockey Junior Championship, and in connection with an incident at the Riga airport: the hockey players of the Lada club were on an airplane that rolled out of the runway. They headed for the capital of Bashkortostan.

Until now, Ufa is still mentioned as the venue for the SCO and BRICS summits in 2015.

Besides, foreign media reported a negative public reaction to the abolition of the compulsory study of the Bashkir language at schools.

Rustem Khamitov said the other day that FC Ufa's progress was becoming "an interesting marketing move to promote our republic". "Ten years ago no one knew us at all. Now the citation index has grown tenfold".
