Tu-204 aircraft design allows safely landing with just one engine - expert

On the night of August 22, the Tu-204 plane, which flew to Sochi, had to make a crash landing at the Ufa airport. Approximately two minutes after take-off, the left engine of the aircraft ignited. The crew decided to return the jet to the Ufa airport. None of the 202 passengers on board, including 42 children, as well as seven crew members, were injured.

In the opinion of the representatives of relevant departments, the tragedy did not happen largely thanks to the coordinated actions of the crew, as well as the technical characteristics of the Tu-204.

As it was explained to the Bashinform News Agency by the director of the "Rusavia" regional airline Dmitry Toropov, the Tu-204 plane was developed by Soviet engineers. This aircraft is designed in such a way that it can perform any flight stages with just one engine.

"Any civil aircraft is designed so that if one of the engines fails, it can perform a flight on another engine, thus, both the plane and the crew coped with this situation".

As reported by the Bashinform News Agency, the Volga Investigative Transport Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia initiated criminal proceedings on the fact of the incident with the Tu-204 passenger plane of the Red Wings company, associated with one of the engines fire.
