Experts named countries to which Russians emigrate

UFA, 2 July 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. The vast majority of Russians (88%) do not want to leave Russia and move to another country. The All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VCIOM) studied the emigration trends of the inhabitants of our country.
"In the past year or two, most Russians do not observe an increase in the number of people leaving for permanent residence to other countries: 27% believe that there are fewer such people, 27% - that their number has not changed. 23% told about an increase in the flow of immigrants, it is reported in the poll.
One in four respondents has his relatives and friends, who left their homeland in recent years (26%): this share was 46% among those who traveled with tourist purposes in the last two or three years.
The share of those wishing to go abroad remains virtually unchanged in 2011-2018: it varies between 10-13%. In 2018, 10% of Russians said about their desire to go for permanent residence to another country. Before others, such aspiration is shown by young people (among 18-24-year-olds - 31%) and people who have traveled in the last two or three years (19-20%). During the year, the share of those who plan to move within a year or two (from 17% in 2017 to 10% in 2018 among those wishing to leave) has decreased noticeably.
In recent years, 18% of Russians traveled for tourist purposes, went on vacation or for treatment. Among young people (18-24 years old) this share was 27%, while among the older generation (60+) only 14%. Three-quarters of Russians (74%) have not traveled outside of Russia in the last two or three years.
Life in Germany still seems to be the most attractive - it is the second consecutive year that it heads the rating of countries considered as an alternative place of residence. It is followed by the United States - 7%, Spain - 6%, Canada - 5%, Italy - 4%.
