Bashkortostan scientists received Pander Society medal for first time in Russia

UFA, 4 April 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. Researchers of the Institute of Geology of the Ufa Science Center RAS, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Viktor Maslov (posthumously) and Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Head of the Paleozoic Stratigraphy Laboratory Olga Artyushkova received a Pander Society medal for outstanding achievements in the study of Devonian conodonts in the Southern Urals and their application in geology.

Colleagues around the world mark that their longstanding work on the introduction and use of conodonts for dating and paleontological characterization of sediments, especially volcanic complexes in difficult tectonic conditions, assistance in prospecting and evaluating mineral resources, deciphering geological structures in complex terranes, is truly a pioneer activity and deserves recognition.

Since the establishment of the Pander Society (1967), Russian scientists have been given this award for the first time, the Ufa Federal Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported. The awarding ceremony took place during a session of the All-Russian Paleontological Society at the A.P. Karpinsky All-Russian Geological Research Institute on April 2, 2018. The medal was presented by the Chairman of the All-Russian Paleontological Society, Academician A.Yu. Rozanov.
