Liliya Gumerova presented Russia’s experience in achieving sustainable development goals at IPU Assembly in Geneva

UFA, 30 March 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. The First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Science, Education and Culture of the Federation Council, a representative in the upper house of parliament from Bashkortostan Liliya Gumerova delivered a report at the Bureau of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade of the 138th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva.
Liliya Gumerova presented the experience of the Russian Federation in achieving the goals of sustainable development, a document adopted by the United Nations as an agenda for sustainable development until 2030. It contains a number of goals aimed at eradicating poverty, conserving the planet's resources and ensuring the well-being of the population.
"In recent years, Russia has advanced in many positions. The real incomes of the population almost tripled, the number of unemployed decreased two-fold, life expectancy increased and mortality decreased. And currently, in Russia, a search for ways and forms of adapting the system of sustainable development goals in accordance with Russian needs and interests is going on currently", the parliamentarian said.
Liliya Gumerova noted that, first of all, in the framework of achieving the goals of sustainable development, Russia was actively involved in the modernization of enterprises and sectors of the economy, increasing labor productivity and quality of vocational training.
She stressed that Russia was working hard to develop human potential, an area that affects all aspects of the economy, education, science, and health. As a positive experience of Russia, the Senator named one of the state social programs for the construction of pre-school educational institutions. Concluding her speech, Liliya Gumerova stated that over the last decades Russia had adopted strategies and plans for energy, climate, education, and innovation, and this work fully met the goals of sustainable development.
