Bashkiria residents awaiting trial in Baghdad Women's Prison
UFA, 5 March 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. 57 women and about one hundred of their children from different Russian regions and cities are in the central women's prison of Baghdad, awaiting trial on charges of Iraqi authorities of terrorism and illegal crossing of the state border of Iraq. The women were taken to the Middle East by their husbands who joined the ISIS illegal organization in Russia, and after their death they were abandoned to the whims of fate. They were put in prison after liberation of former ISIS territories by the government forces. This is reported by RIA Novosti referring to the member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, the representative of the head of Chechnya in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa Ziyad Sabsabi.
"At first we had a list of 35 women with children, then it was replenished by 22 Russian women more who were rescued from the captivity of militia detachments as a result of long-term searches and negotiations of the Iraqi authorities with the assistance of a working group to search for Russian children and women in the zone of the Middle East conflict," said Ziyad Sabsabi.
He stressed that among the prisoners were women from Moscow, Tyumen, Nizhnevartovsk, Volgograd and Bryansk regions, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Bashkiria and Tatarstan.
Sabsabi said that experienced lawyers, hired on behalf of Chechnya's leader Ramzan Kadyrov, protected the interests of Russians. To date, more than 100 women and children have returned to their homeland from Iraq and Syria with the assistance of the Chechen authorities. These are residents of Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Bashkiria, Tver, Nizhnevartovsk, as well as citizens of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Later, the procedure for the return of Russians from Iraq, who visited the territory of the ISIS, was complicated. As Sabbsabi reported, all Russian women and girls over 14 years old being in prison have been accused of crimes stipulated in two articles of Iraqi legislation - terrorism and illegal crossing of the Iraqi border. Their fate will be determined after the decision of the Baghdad court, the senator specified.
