Ufa doctors were assisted by robot during surgery for first time in Russia

UFA, 14 February 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Natalia Ovcharuk/. A robot surgeon assisted two experienced doctors at the Bashkir State Medical University (BSMU) Clinic in Ufa during a pelvic floor evisceration surgery. The rector of the medical university of the republic Valentin Pavlov and the head of the oncology department of the clinic Marat Urmantsev operated a young patient with the fourth cervical cancer stage together with the robot. The girl had already undergone chemotherapy and radiation therapy, but with no improvements.

"Recovery and long-term quality of life of patients with severe disease stages is possible with the use of robotic surgery, due to more precise and coordinated work of doctors and a surgical robot", the BSMU clinic spokesman stated.

The special equipment called da Vinci was purchased by the hospital in January 2018. It allows conducting robot-assisted surgeries, which are distinguished by better visualization and more precision techniques due to the greater degree of manipulation freedom. It can also be used in other areas of medicine: cardiovascular surgery, pulmonology, gastro-surgery, neurosurgery, oncology, including in the most severe cases, when removal of the organ system is required.
