Ufa cardiac surgeons performed heart surgery on premature newborn baby

UFA, 25 January 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. In Ufa cardiac surgeons performed a heart surgery on a premature newborn baby weighing only about one kilogram.

"The baby was born prematurely, with weight of 700 g, with congenital heart disease. Doctors of the Republican Clinical Perinatal Center for some time were preparing the newborn for surgery, and when she gained a little body weight, cardiac surgeons of the Republic Cardiology Center operated the baby directly in the maternity hospital", Bogdan Oleinik, the deputy chief doctor for surgery of the Republic Cardiology Center, told the Bashinform News Agency.

According to him, this is not the first experience of the surgery team operating in other medical institutions. Earlier, the cardiac center doctors performed heart surgeries at the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital, the "Mother and Child" clinical hospital.

As the deputy head physician of the Cardiology Center noted, no other heart operations on the baby are longer required. Now the girl undergoes a course of rehabilitation in the perinatal center.

In a year, doctors of the Republican Cardiology Center perform more than 700 heart operations for children. And the total number of surgical interventions will be about 8 thousand, in conditions of artificial circulation - 2300.

The Republican Cardiology Center is the third in Russia in terms of the number of coronary artery bypass graft surgeries.
