15 swamps will be taken under state protection in Bashkiria
UFA, 29 December 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Olga Murtazina/. In Bashkiria in 2018, 15 new natural areas will be formed, the Ministry of Ecology RB reported. These are swamps in the steppe and forest-steppe zones: Abzelilovo, Aurgazy, Bizhbulyak, Birsk, Ilishevo, Ishimbay, Kushnarenkovo, Miyaki, Uchaly districts.
"Peat bogs have a significant biosphere value, due to their ability to accumulate atmospheric carbon, an important hydrological role and high biological diversity. Rare and endangered species of plants and animals included in the Red Books of Bashkiria and Russia grow and live there", Ekaterina Bogdan, the head of the laboratory of specially protected natural areas and biological resources of health and safety institute.
Total, there are 182 natural monuments in 41 districts in the republic. Their total area is 42 thousand 264.7 hectares.
It should be reminded that a UN project to restore the Berkazan-Kamish swamp drained in the 80-s is implemented in the republic.
