Biometric data control system is able to replace passports already now - VisionLabs

UFA, 24 November 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Olga Murtazina/. Federal media broadcast a statement of VisionLabs company that already now, the face recognition technology allows replacing passports and other documents that prove identity of a person.

This is possible from a technical point of view, but legislation and infrastructure are not ready for this, thus in reality passports and paper documents will be abandoned in 15-20 years only, experts say.

The VisionLabs system is built on face recognition in combination with biometric indicators (iris, fingerprint, voice). The other day, 25% stake in the company was acquired by Sberbank. The intention to introduce a similar system was also reported by VTB.

Identification of persons (without biometrics) is already applied in the sphere of public security. So, in Moscow in the end of September 160 thousand CCTV cameras were connected to the face recognition system of the N-Tech.La company, for this project the city administration allocated 5 billion rubles.

In addition, trading companies are planning to use customers face recognition to use their dossiers to better understand their preferences and needs.
