Ufa media writes about Ru-106 emission in neighboring Chelyabinsk region

UFA, 21 November 2017. /Bashinform News Agency/. Ufa mass media write about emission of isotopes of the radioactive metal ruthenium-106 in the neighboring Chelyabinsk region, based on the published bulletin of Roshydromet for September-October this year. The situation was analized by RBC-Ufa.
As Russian Greenpeace notes, the most significant concentrations of ruthenium were found in the settlements near the Mayak plant. Under normal conditions, according to ecologists, this generated by technology radionuclide is absent in the environment. Its presence in the atmosphere testifies to an accidental discharge.
Roshydromet described pollution, which was observed in the Chelyabinsk region and in Tatarstan, as "extremely high" and "high". Bashkiria was luckier, but the radioactive cloud did not pass us by: on September 26 and 27 a concentration of the dangerous substance was 187 Bq per square meter at the Ufa-Dema station.
Russian Greenpeace submitted a letter to the prosecutor's office with a request to check for a possible concealment of a radiation accident and information on the state of the environment, as well as the readiness of a system for monitoring radionuclides in the atmosphere to new accidents.
Europeans were the first to start talking about the radioactive cloud. In late September, the concentration of Ru-106 was recorded in Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and France.
Scientists say that the leakage of ruthenium-106 isotopes "does not pose risks to the environment and human health".
