Vladimir Putin will open "Wall of Sorrow" monument with natural stones from Bashkiria

UFA, 30 October 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. Today it is a mournful date in our country - the Remembrance Day of Political Repressions Victims. The monument to the victims of political repressions "The Wall of Sorrow" will be opened on Monday in the center of Moscow. The ceremony will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who several years ago supported the initiative of human rights defenders and issued a decree on the erection of the monument.
The monument is erected with natural stones from Bashkortostan. The selected stones from the memorable places of the region were transferred to the "Perpetuating Memory of the Political Repression Victims" Foundation.
The memorial is erected at the intersection of Sakharov Avenue and the Garden Ring, created under the project of the famous sculptor Georgy Frangulyan, TASS reports. This project was selected in a competition of 300 works. The monument is a large bronze bas-relief depicting human figures symbolizing survivors and passed away. One word is written on the flat surfaces of the bas-relief - "Remember" - in different languages. It is supplemented by granite compositions that figuratively represent torture chambers and echelons, and the square itself is planned to be paved with the inclusion of stones from the places of imprisonment.
A Memory Foundation for was created to raise funds for this memorial. Very different people made donations to the foundation. The Head of the foundation Roman Romanov said that it had been managed to raise 45 million rubles. He thanked the supporters and promised that their names would be published on the website.
