Rustem Khamitov suggested creating Volga regional neurosurgical center in Bashkortostan

UFA, 19 October 2017. /Bashinform News Agency/. A neurosurgical center of the Volga Federal District may appear in Bashkortostan. The Head of the Republic Rustem Khamitov put forward such an initiative at the First Russian-Chinese Congress of Neurosurgeons.

The head of the region noted that currently the federal neurosurgical centers were available only in several Russian cities - Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Tyumen. At the same time, nearly 30 million people live in the Volga Federal District - one-fifth of the country's population.

“Our republic is quite big - both in terms of territory and population. We cannot do without further improvement of neurosurgical care, which is received annually by more than 10,000 patients”, said Rustem Khamitov. “I consider that one more federal neurosurgical centre should be opened in Ufa and - what is especially important - the neurorehabilitation center of the Volga region. I ask you, dear colleagues, to support our initiative and to provide scientific and methodological assistance in its implementation.”

According to the head of the republic, in the past year in the cities and regions of Bashkortostan several clinics and hospital buildings were put into operation. The Republican Perinatal Center was built and functions in Ufa. The construction of a ward building with a polyclinic is begun at the Republican Oncology Centre, for which more than 2 billion rubles will be allocated from the regional budget. In 2018, the reconstruction of the surgical building of the Republican Cardiology Center will start.

The chief neurosurgeon of the Russian Ministry of Health Vladimir Krylov supported Rustem Khamitov's initiative.
