Yangan-Tau Geopark is created in Salavat District

UFA, 18 October 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Olga Murtazina/. A creation of the Yangan-Tau Geopark in the Salavat District - the first Russian UNESCO geopark in the territory of the republic was discussed at the Government of Bashkiria. For the first time this topic was touched upon at the International Environmental Forum held in Ufa in the summer. UNESCO experts assessed this area as very promising in terms of developing geotourism and further obtaining international status. Currently, an application is prepared for the UNESCO commission. Experts of the international organization will arrive in the republic in November.

It is known that the structure of the Yangan-Tau Geopark will include nine specially protected natural areas of the Salavat District. The geopark will promote the development of tourism. Thus, now in 35 countries there are 127 geoparks representing and combining geological, landscape, historical and even anthropogenic features of the regions. In Russia, there is currently one geopark. This is the Altai Geopark created in December 2015 and is preparing to join the Global Geoparks Network.
