Liliya Gumerova: "Russia has accumulated rich experience in ensuring gender equality"
UFA, 6 October 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Alim Faizov/. The First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Liliya Gumerova took part in the Regional Conference of Eastern Europe and Central Asia on Gender Equality in Chisinau.
The forum is organized with the support of the United Nations Development Program and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the OSCE, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Sweden. More than 90 parliamentarians, representatives of local government bodies and public organizations from 11 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia participate in its work. The most pressing problems related to women's rights and their full participation in all spheres of life were discussed there.
Liliya Gumerova delivered a speech at the session of the Conference devoted to the exchange of experience on the issue of increasing women's participation in political life. The Senator noted that in the Russian Federation a huge work was conducted to expand the participation of women in the political and economic life of the country and the decision-making process.
"The adoption of the National Action Strategy for the Benefit of Women, initiated by the Federation Council Chairman Valentina Matvienko, became a new starting point for gender equality in Russia. The document contains targets and expected results, as well as activities to improve the status of women in the political, economic, social and cultural spheres. Its adoption provided a new approach to the empowerment of women, including through the quota seats project in the parliament", Liliya Gumerova said.
The Head of the Department for Democratization of the ODIHR, Marcin Valecki expressed interest in the experience of the Russian Federation, and also announced the ODIHR representatives possible participation in the second Eurasian Women's Forum 2018 in St. Petersburg.
