Number of children increased and one million people retired in Russia

UFA, 4 October 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. The share of children in the structure of the Russian Federation for the first time in 15 years has grown to 18.3%. The number of children under the age of 15 increased by 600 thousand last year, which was 2% of the increase to 26.9 million. Izvestia analyzes the statistics.

Experts name several reasons for this growth in the children's population, one of which is the consequences of low birth rates in the nineties and in the beginning of the zero years.

The republics of Chechnya, Tyva and Ingushetia show a large increase, where there are traditionally high birth rates, moreover, stimulated by maternity capital. In addition, the growth of the children's population is provided by the children of migrants.

Despite the increase in the share of children, the population of Russia continues ageing - one million people retired in the same year of 2016.
