More than 20 operated children - "Operation Smile" continues in Bashkiria

The "Operation Smile" will give new smiles this year to more than 40 children and teenagers born with a cleft lip and palate, as part of a charity event that taking place these days in Ufa, in the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital.
Most of the patients are residents of the republic, although there are children from the Chelyabinsk region, Tyumen and other subjects of the Russian Federation. Since the beginning of the campaign that started this week, more than 20 patients have undergone surgery, in the coming days Bashkir and Russian doctors will help another 20 children, the Ministry of Health RB reports.
As experts note, with timely and qualitatively conducted treatment, the negative consequences of birth defects are effectively eliminated, allowing completely restoring the children's physical and psychological state and promoting their successful socialization.
Doctors of the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital have been supporting this charity event with great joy and pleasure for many years, because this project changes the life of children with congenital maxillofacial defects for the better.
Director of the "Operation Smile" Charity Foundation Olga Kudamanova stressed that all the volunteer doctors of the foundation had extensive experience working with patients with congenital cleft lip and palate and underwent internal accreditation.
Nail Davletshin, the chief visiting oral and maxillofacial surgeon of the Ministry of Health RB, who is a part of the volunteer doctors, noted that the republic's children receive free high-tech medical assistance in the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital for a year. But the arrival of specialists from all over the country makes it possible to provide necessary medical assistance to an even greater number of children, to gain international experience and to improve the skills of surgeons in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
