Issues of studying state and native languages cannot be left unattended - Rustem Khamitov

UFA, 15 September 2017. /Bashinform News Agency/. More than 75 percent of the republican schoolchildren voluntarily chose to study the Bashkir state language. This was announced at the meeting with heads of national public associations of the region by the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov.

"Instructions on the voluntary study of the state languages and languages of the peoples inhabiting our republic formulated and signed by the President of the Russian Federation have been accepted for execution, including in our republic", the head of the republic stated. "Today, after the first 10 days of classes in schools, we have some statistics. I can say that more than 75 percent of schoolchildren voluntarily chose to study the Bashkir state language. This situation indicates quite high civil understanding of this topic in our society and, thus, undermines any statements that the situation with the study of the Bashkir language has worsened at the republican schools ".

At the same time Rustem Khamitov pointed out the need to improve approaches, forms and methods of studying native and state languages.

Rustem Khamitov suggested studying this topic within the framework of the Preservation and Development of the Bashkir Language Fund, which would be created in accordance with the Decree signed.

"We need to study the outcome of compulsory study of the Bashkir language decade, what results we have finally, whether the children leaving the school have a command of the language to the extent that they should have. It is necessary to understand the attitude of the society towards this topic," said Rustem Khamitov.
