Russians support alcohol sale ban on citizens under age of 21 - survey

UFA, 11 September 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. Among the measures to combat alcoholism, the greatest support among Russians was enjoyed by the ban on alcohol sale to citizens under the age of 21 (53%), as well as alcohol advertising (46% in 2017 - against 57% in 2009), promoting healthy lifestyles (48 %). Since 2005 (39%), the relevance of the latter has grown significantly. At the same time, for 12 years, the share of those who choose the option "the introduction of criminal liability for drinking alcohol and the appearance of alcohol intoxicated in public places" has fallen (from 39% to 28%). The All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Study (VCIOM) presents the poll data on the subject of alcoholism.
The following measures were the least popular as shown by the survey: increase in prices for alcohol products (18%) and introduction of total prohibition - 13%.
The beginning of the anti-alcohol campaign in the country would be supported by 64% of Russians (in the last ten years their share has changed insignificantly).
The problem of alcoholism is relevant for many people in the country (according to 41% of respondents, there are alcoholics in their close environment). A number of measures to combat alcoholism receive widespread support among the population.
Most often, alcoholism is classified as a disease requiring medical intervention (45%). About a quarter of respondents (27%) consider it as a social disease.
The initiative the all-Russian survey "VCIOM-Sputnik" was held on August 3-4, 2017. The survey involved citizens aged 18 and over. The survey method was a telephone interview on a stratified two-base random sample of landline and mobile phones of 1200 respondents.
