Natural stones from Bashkiria will be used at "The Wall of Sorrow" monument in Moscow

UFA, 28 July 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. Natural stones from Bashkiria will be used at the "The Wall of Sorrow" monument in Moscow. The selection of stones from the memorable places of the region for placement in the monument erected in the Russian capital began. The material will be transferred to the "Perpetuating Memory of Political Repression Victims" Foundation.
The large-scale monument "The Wall of Sorrow" will be erected in Moscow at the intersection of Sakharov Avenue and the Garden Ring. The opening of the monument, created on the project by the famous sculptor Georgy Frangulyan, is planned on October 30 with the participation of the top leadership of Russia.
According to the project, it is planned to use a natural stone in the paving around "The Wall of Sorrow" monument from different parts of the country associated with periods of political repression: places of mass executions; location of ex-prison camps; regions whose population was subjected to forced deportation.
A significant part of the funding for the creation of the monument is allocated by the state. The rest funds are attracted by donations of legal entities and individuals throughout the territory of Russia, which gives the monument a status of a people's memorial. Fundraising is organized by the "Perpetuating Memory of Political Repression Victims" Foundation. The Board of the Foundation includes Vladimir Lukin, Sergey Karaganov, Pavel Lungin, Arseny Roginsky, Natalia Solzhenitsyna.
