Pink dwarf banana ripens in Ufa greenhouse

UFA, 19 July 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. A dwarf banana has flourished in Ufa greenhouse. It was grown from seeds brought in 2015 from the Perm Botanical Garden. It has a pink inflorescence and unlike many other kinds of bananas, this species usually reaches rather small size - no more than 1.5 meters in height.

"This plant blooms unusually, for the first time we have a pink banana," said Farida Sadykova, the head of the training and experimental farm. "The first fruit of a new resident of our greenhouse can be tasted in two months."

The first dwarf bananas appeared in the Ufa greenhouse almost 10 years ago. In 2010, the employees enjoyed the rare sight of a Japanese dwarf banana. The plant has long been assimilated in a new place and did not want to develop. The head of the training and experimental farm decided to transplant the exotic guest from the pot to the ground under the glass, and the result did not take long: the banana blossomed and gave 80 small fruit.

"Bananas blossom for about a month," Farida Sadykova told the Bashinform Agency.
