Republican medical-genetic centre will be launched in Ufa

UFA, 4 July 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. A republican medical and genetic centre will be established in Ufa. The order on its creation was signed by the Government of Bashkortostan.

It is planned to open a scientific institution on the initiative of the Head of Bashkortostan at the innovation centre at the Genetics and Fundamental Medicine Department of the Biology Faculty at Bashkir State University. Rustem Khamitov spoke last year about scaling up the experience accumulated by regional doctors and the need for further scientific research in this area.

The founder - the Ministry of Health of the region - has to resolve all organizational issues within a month.

According to the doctor of biological sciences, the acting director of the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics of the Ufa Science Centre RAS and one of the country's leading specialists in the field of population and medical genetics Elza Khusnutdinova, the new centre will be able to provide the population of the republic and the entire Volga-Ural region with a wide range of modern high-tech molecular genetic methods of early diagnosis and treatment of hereditary, oncological and socially significant diseases.

"The creation of such a centre, introduction of molecular genetics methods will allow us to move to personalized medical treatment in the republic, when the treatment is selected taking into account the genetic features of each patient," the professor believes. "We will be able to conduct early prenatal DNA diagnosis of hereditary diseases, to diagnose cancer, prevent birth of children with severe hereditary pathology, to prolong life and improve the quality of life of people".
