Today is World Blood Donor Day

Today, on June 14, countries around the world celebrate the World Blood Donor Day to express their gratitude to donors who voluntarily and gratuitously donate their blood to save lives. This year, the central theme of the Donor Day campaign is blood donation in emergency situations - natural disasters, accidents, armed conflicts, man-made disasters, and road accidents that form large needs for donated blood. Only in the last decade, disasters have claimed more than one million lives and affect more than 250 million people annually. It is necessary to involve the entire population and ensure availability of donors willing to donate blood voluntarily and on a gratuitous basis throughout the year for formation of sufficient supplies of donor blood in case of emergencies. As a slogan for the 2017 campaign, the question was chosen: "What can you do?", an additional slogan - "Give Blood! Give Now! Give Often!".

Annually in the world about 108 million donations of blood are registered. In Bashkortostan, the main donation centre is the Republican Blood Transfusion Station (Ufa, Batyrskaya Str. 41/1). Annually it accepts more than 100 thousand donors and procures more than 44 tons of blood for medical institutions of the region. The stations operate in the cities of Sterlitamak and Oktyabrsky. You can also donate blood in the capital, city and district hospitals. In the region there are more than 10.5 thousand people awarded the title of the "Honourary Donor".

This year, the republican contest "The Best Donor of Russia 2017" in the Republic of Bashkortostan among the blood service institutions was organized on the World Donor Day, 20 donors and nine donor dynasties took part in it.
