UFA, 5 June 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Olga Murtazina/. May 2017 in Russia was the coldest in the 21st century, Izvestia reported. The average May temperature was 10.9 degrees, which is 2.2 degrees below the norm. 84 mm precipitation fell in May, or 164 percent of the monthly rate.
The reason for the cold spring was the flow of Arctic air, which sometimes led to even frosts throughout the past month. Such long cold weather in the northern part of Russia has not happened since 1969, the weather forecasters noted.
