International Symposium on Shulgan-Tash Cave Art preservation will be held in Bashkiria

UFA, 5 June 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. From June 7 to 10 a "Historical and Cultural Heritage Preservation: Theory and Practice" International Symposium will take place in the Murat-Tugai district of Burzyan district, dedicated to the urgent issues of preservation, turning into museums and popularization of cultural heritage objects, including a unique monument of archeology - the ancient cave painting of the Shulgan-Tash Cave.
The symposium will be attended by scientists from Moscow and a number of foreign rock art experts: Eudald Guillamet - an international specialist in rock art restoration (Andorra la Vella, Principality of Andorra), Alain Dalis - scientific director of the museum of antiquity, Atelier Arc & Os Montignac director (Montignac, France), David Huguet - an expert in support of cultural projects, researcher at the Pont D-Arc Cave museum (France).
The participants of the event will make presentations, exchange experience in scientific and practical activities in the field of rock art monuments preservation, methods of restoration and conservation of rock art monuments, creating copies of caves and reproducing monuments of rock art, preserving a microclimate of a karstic cavity, creating a "Shulgan- Tash" Historical and Cultural Museum Complex.
From June 10 to June 26, the international expedition will continue its work aiming to remove modern graffiti from the walls of the Shulgan-Tash Cave. The expedition will be headed by Eudald Guillamet, who has extensive experience in conservation of rock art in the UNESCO World Heritage Caves: Lascaux, Chauvet, Rouffignac, Arcy-sur-Cure (France), Sueva del Pendo and others. Foreign experts will be assisted by a group of researchers and restorers from the "Shulgan-Tash Cave" Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve and the Research and Production Centre for Protection and Use of Bashkortostan Cultural Heritage Objects.
