Russians reduced consumption of surrogate alcohol by 0.5 liters per person

According to preliminary data of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, following the results of 2016, Russians reduced consumption of surrogate alcohol by 0.5 liters per capita. The situation was examined by Izvestiya edition. In 2015, the indicator was 3.5 liters in ethyl equivalent, in 2016 - 3 liters. The government believes that the decline was due to the introduction of USAIS (Unified State Automated Information System) in retail and due to work of law enforcement bodies.

From 2005 to 2015, the consumption of surrogates decreased from 6.9 to 3.5 liters per capita. As previously reported, the total consumption of alcohol (legal and illegal) decreased to 10.3 liters last year (for example, in 2008 it was 15.7 liters). Preliminary statistics of the Ministry of Health showed a decrease in mortality from alcohol poisoning by 12% by the end of 2016.
