UFA, 16 May 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. The Rospotrebnadzor warned Russian tourists that an epidemic rise in hepatitis A incidence continues in the countries of the European region. Since June 2016, 674 cases of hepatitis A have been registered, 631 of them among men.
Cases have been registered in 13 countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Holland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The largest number of cases was reported in Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy.
Currently, European specialists are carrying out a set of measures to localize and eliminate the outbreak, including vaccination of at-risk groups, laboratory studies, and sanitary and educational work.
Rospotrebnadzor asks Russian citizens to take this situation into account when planning their trips, according to the website of the agency.
The acute hepatitis A is an infection when the only source of the virus is a person. The incubation period ranges from seven to 50 days, more often 35 days. Vaccination for epidemiological indications is the main preventive measure aimed at localization and elimination of the focal point of hepatitis A.
