Pensions indexation to working pensioners will cost 170-200 billion rubles to budget - Ministry of Labour

UFA, 25 April 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Alim Faizov/. The head of the RF Ministry of Labour Maxim Topilin said that the pension indexation of working pensioners can cost the budget the sum of 170-200 billion rubles, but there are no decisions on the return of payments yet.

"The sum is very significant, so we will consider how to deal with it," Izvestia newspaper reports quoting Maxim Topilin on Interfax.

The Minister stressed that this issue will be discussed with the economic bloc of the government after the corresponding commission. He also expressed an opinion that the decision to suspend indexation encouraged employers not to take this category of employees into off-the-book payment.

Last week, the issue of pension indexation was raised by the Head of the Government Dmitry Medvedev during a report to the State Duma. The Prime Minister noted that indexation of pensions for unemployed Russians remained the priority for the authorities.

At present, about 9.6 million pensioners work in Russia. Since 2016, their pensions have not been indexed, the publication recalls.
