Almost 380 people from Bashkortostan are in federal stem cell donors register

UFA, 25 April 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. The register of stem cell donors continues to be replenished in Bashkortostan. The stem cell donors are people who can really help patients with oncological and hematological diseases. Donors are chosen among those who constantly donate blood and its components, they will be included in the federal register - today it numbers about 60 thousand people, including almost 380 from Bashkortostan. However, in order to find a suitable donor for at least half of Russian patients, 500,000 such people are needed.

During the campaign held recently in a medical institution, an agreement on joining the Register of potential donors of hematopoietic stem cells was signed by 32 people more.

Currently, such registers exist around the world, in every country, including in Russia.

A donor of bone marrow is selected on the basis of tissue compatibility with a patient. This means that certain proteins on the surface of the cells should coincide completely or almost completely with the donor and the patient.

A healthy person who has no contraindications to blood donation and its components, aged 18 to 45 years may be a potential donor of stem cells. For this it is necessary to apply to the address: Ufa, Batyrskaya Street, 41/1.

In the Russian Federation, the National Register of Potential Bone Marrow Donors named after Vasya Perevoshchikov (a boy from the Russian outback, who was not found a donor on time) was formed in recent years. Since August 2015, the Republican Blood Transfusion Station RB has joined the work on replenishment of the National Register.
