Campaign for bone marrow donors searching "Donate Blood - Save Life" will be held in Ufa

UFA, 17 April 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. On April 22, a campaign to donate blood for typing "Donate Blood - Save Life" timed to the National Donor Day in Russia will take place in Ufa.

Everyone can donate blood or plasma and join the National Register of Potential Bone Marrow Donors - a database that contains information about people who agreed to provide their stem cells in case of need to save lives of patients with cancer. Bone marrow transplantation is the only chance for recovery for thousands of people.

To test whether the bone marrow is suitable for transplantation, blood analysis is taken at a potential donor and HLA Typing is performed - that is, to define set of genes responsible for tissue compatibility.

"Searching for a donor abroad costs 20,000 euros, and it is not guaranteed that a suitable donor will be available in the International Register. The search and involvement of Russian donors is many times cheaper, but the National Register is still small and it is very important to replenish it. The larger the register, the easier it is to find a donor", said Aigul Gubacheva, head of the «Poter Net» Charity Foundation for Seriously Ill Children.

The "Donate Blood - Save Life" campaign will take place in the Republican blood transfusion station at the address: Batyrskaya Street, 41/1, from 9 to 13.00.
