Conscription age may be raised to 30 years in Russia - media

UFA, 24 March 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Alfiya Agliullina/. The maximum age of recruitment for military service in Russia can be increased from the current 27 to 30 years of age. The proposal to raise the age of the draft was expressed in the State Duma. The defense committee came forward with such initiative, Interfax reports with reference to the head of the committee Vladimir Shamanov. According to him, "a number of deputies supported the idea that the limit of 27 years was small, and it should be increased".
"Some suggested 30 years that draft evaders were not interested in evading", the head of the committee noted. He also said that "a working group will be created".
Currently, according to Article 22 of the Federal Law "On Military Duty and Military Service," conscription to military service is subject to male citizens aged 18 to 27 years who are on military registration or not, but who must be on military records and not staying in reserve.
