Rustem Khamitov: "Environmental situation in republic is stable"

UFA, 15 February 2017. /Bashinform News Agency/. On February 14, the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov delivered a speech at the board of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology RB. During the meeting, the results of the ministry’s work in 2016 were announced, and priorities for the coming period were defined.
“The environmental situation in the republic and the country as a whole is stable. We are moving forward after all and began to show signs of improvement on many issues,” said the Head of the Region. “The air pollution index is reducing. Despite the fact that there is growth of road transport, still the situation is becoming better. We understand that wastewater treatment plants operate quite reliably in most industrial plants. We see that control and supervision in the field of environmental management is exercised quite effectively, etc.”
Among the local environmental problems the Head of the Republic named the situation with solid waste disposal, industrial emissions and risk of man-made accidents, lack of appropriate storm sewage system, "environmental misconduct" on the part of business representatives.
“It depends from our work how environmental activities will be implemented in the Republic of Bashkortostan. It depends largely on your efficiency, conscience, and ability to organize this work. It would be absolutely immoral to consider environmental activities as a business tool for gaining excess profit”, Rustem Khamitov underlined. “You are also responsible for public peace. I know how sensitive environmental issues are as they today deeply penetrated into the pores of our society. Moral, and, of course, physical health of our citizens depends on your work. We have a lot of work to do. You can see that we have disturbing and complicated issues to work jointly on. And I will be your first assistant in this activity.”
