Infectious disease physician from Bashkortostan is preparing for clinic opening for poor people in Guatemala
UFA, 14 February 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. On February 24, an official opening of a medical clinic for the poor will be held in a small village of Chuinahtahuyub in Guatemala. The "Building a Clinic at World's End" project was initiated last year by the infectious disease physician from Bashkortostan Victoria Valikova. The doctor was the only practitioner in that locality. Poverty and lack of medical care in villages far from the cities inspired her to unite people from different countries around construction of the clinic.
The construction of the hospital, equipment, drugs and consumables cost about 3.5 million rubles. The charity funds raising was carried out through a crowdfunding platform and on the website he-he.org. Thanks to the funds collected for seven months it was managed to build the hospital. It is located next to the village school. According to Victoria Valikova the new outpatient clinic building has a consultation room, a surgical procedures and childbirth room, a pharmacy, a laboratory and a three-bed ward. Now medical volunteers are recruited to provide ongoing medical assistance to the local population. The clinic will have round the clock working hours.
