Government adopted conceptual decision on increasing retirement age

UFA, 1 February 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Olga Murtazina/. The Government of Russia adopted a conceptual decision on increasing the retirement age. This was reported by "Izvestiya". Now the Cabinet discusses specific provisions of the law. According to preliminary information, there are three options: a gradual increase among women up to 63 years, among men - up to 65; equal retirement age for all – at 63 years. The social coalition in the Government, which opposes the increase, proposes to make retirement for men at the age of 65 and for women – at the age of 60.

The changes are likely to be announced after the formation of a new government in 2018.

In 2015 the average life expectancy of Russian men was 66 years, women - 77 years. It is 71 years for both sexes. Men retire at 60, women – at 55.

In the United States, Canada, Japan the retirement age for men and women is set at 65 years; France - 60; Swiss - 65 and 64 years, Austria - 65 and 60, Israel - 67 and 62.
