60 percent of Russians use social networks - survey

UFA, 24 January 2017. /Bashinform News Agency, Alim Faizov/. Social networking sites are used by 60 percent of Russians, "Izvestia" reports citing the data obtained from the national survey in December 2016. This share is by four percentage points more than in 2015 and by 20 percent more than in 2011. Sociologists also found out that each network has its own socio-demographic profile.
The respondents most often named "VKontakte" (40 percent), "Odnoklassniki" (34), Facebook (9), "My World" (7), Twitter (5), "My Circle" (3), LJ ( 3).
"VKontakte" is especially popular among young people - almost 80 percent of students prefer to use this social media to communicate. "Odnoklassniki" is the most popular among middle-aged women. But Facebook and Twitter are often used by people with high socio-economic status occupying the leadership positions and having high income and educational level. More men than women communicate in these networks.
The popularity of social networks is largely dependent on place of residence. For example, among the Muscovites is the largest percentage of users (49 percent), and among the rural population - the lowest (29 percent).
