December sky over Ufa was brightened with unique atmospheric phenomenon

UFA, 2 December 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Arina Rakhimkulova/. Today, on December 2, Ufa residents witnessed a beautiful atmospheric phenomenon - halo. It is a bright glow caused by the refraction of sunlight by ice crystals and often called winter rainbow.

In the first half of the day, shades of red and orange and yellow were clearly visible. Employees of the Bashinform News Agency captured it in the central part of the city.

As Bashkir Met Office forecasters believe this phenomenon occurs rarely in winter. It requires three components for the appearance at this time of the year: strong frost, high humidity and bright sunshine. Most of these phenomena are observed at changes in the weather, for example, before storm approaching or decrease in temperature. According to a country saying, rainbow in the winter means a cold snap.
