Ufa will welcome "Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run" International Torch Relay

UFA, 7 September 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. Ufa will welcome the International Torch Relay «Oneness-Home Peace Run» on September 21. A meeting with the team of torchbearers will take place at 13.00 in Victory Park, where the flame of the Torch of Peace will join the Eternal Flame. According to organizers, the capital of the republic being on the border of European Russia, the Urals and Siberia, will host the closing ceremony of the torch relay. The joint finish of the Western and Eastern branches will symbolically bring together two parts of the world - Europe and Asia.

The Torch Relay supposes that runners from around the world will carry the torch through the territory of the United States, Europe, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Africa and Southeast Asia.

The relay will overcome about 19 000 km in the territory of the Russian Federation with starts in Vladivostok, Sevastopol, Perm and Moscow. The Russian team of the Eastern branch will meet with the Chinese teams, Mongolia and Kazakhstan, and the team of the West branch - with the international European team on the border with Finland, and also in Belarus.

The author of the idea of "Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run" - Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007) - a well-known public figure, creative person, athlete and a healthy lifestyle advocate.

This large-scale project at different times was supported by well-known people of the world and our country: Mother Teresa, Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana, Vyacheslav Fetisov, Irina Rodnina, Anatoly Karpov, Tatyana Lebedeva, Nikolai Valuev, Paul McCartney, Boris Grebenshchikov and many others. In 1996, the cosmonaut Gennady Strekalov brought the relay torch in space and transferred it to American astronauts at the Mir space station.

In Russia, the "Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run" is held since 1991.
