Teacher profession is considered prestigious by 21 percent of Russians

UFA, 30 August 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Olga Murtazina/. The profession of a teacher is considered prestigious by 21 percent of Russians. 37 percent hold the opposite view. The Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM) on the eve of September 1 interviewed inhabitants of the country regarding school teachers work. 62 percent of respondents, who have children and grandchildren, marked their satisfaction with their teachers in general. Only 14 percent believe that currently the majority of school teachers do not cope with their responsibilities. Incompliance with professional requirements is often associated with low salaries (29 percent), high load (12 percent), lack of necessary skills, experience (10 percent) and personal demotivation in work (11 percent).
The respondents assessed their comparative experience not in favour of the modern teachers: 53 percent believe that they were taught much better than in modern schools. The opposite opinion was expressed by 14 percent of respondents.
48 percent of Russians rated the general condition of the school education as "average", 31 percent – as "unsatisfactory", 14 percent as "good".
