Russians choose TV and Internet as a source of information - poll

UFA, 4 May 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Ksenia Kalinina/. Russians choose television and the Internet as a source of information. This is evidenced by data from a survey held by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Centre.

The majority of Russians (66 percent) are interested in changes in the political and economic paradigm within the country and abroad, 21 percent especially monitor this information in mass media, and 45 percent get news on the occasion. Increased interest is marked among pensioners. Young people, on the other hand, show less activity (38 against 10-13 percent).

For most people the main source of news is still TV, but its popularity began to decline (62 percent in 2015, 57 - in 2016). Today, the Internet is used to search for news content by 27 percent of all respondents (in 2015 - 22). Experts believe that in the future, this average figure will only grow. Today network for 18-24 year olds (62 percent) and 25-34 year olds (47 percent) is the main source of news. Radio, newspapers and magazines are named much less frequently - by three and one percent, respectively.

The high level of trust in television is further confirmed by the fact that in the presence of contradictory information about any event in a variety of media, namely television programs to be believed by more than half of citizens (53 percent). It is noted a decrease in this proportion (from 60 percent in 2013) in the last few years. 22 percent of respondents prefer sites and blogs in this issue and seven percent -"word of mouth".
