Natural monuments of Bashkortostan and Chelyabinsk region to be merged in "South Ural" biosphere reserve

UFA, 24 March 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. It is planned to merge natural monuments of Bashkortostan and the Chelyabinsk region in an inter-regional biosphere reserve. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology RB discussed a creation of the "South Ural" inter-regional biosphere reserve.

This work is carried out in the framework of the Agreement between the Government of the Chelyabinsk region and Bashkortostan Government on trade-economic, scientific-technical, social and cultural cooperation. The plans of the parties are to unite eight specially protected natural areas as well as two cooperation zones as part of inter-regional biosphere reserve. Among them there is an Ilmen Reserve, "Zyuratkul" and "Zigalga" National Parks, "Iremel" and "Tyulyuk" Natural Parks, "Ural-Tau" and Arshinsky reserves. According to the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology RB Ildus Yakhin, the event is included in the Action Plan of the Year of protected areas in the republic.

After the meeting, the sides confirmed their intention to continue joint work on preparation of an application for the "South Ural" inter-regional biosphere reserve creation to UNESCO.
