10 thousand eco-boxes more will be installed in Bashkiria

UFA, 12 February 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. 10 thousand new eco-boxes more for hazardous waste will be installed in Bashkortostan. Agreement on development of the National Social Environmental Project "Eco-box" was signed by the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology RB Ildar Hadyev and the Co-Chairman of the Council for Conservation of the Natural Heritage of the Nation in the Federation Council, Co-Chairman of the Commission for Culture and Environmental Education at the Federal Environmental Council of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, Vladimir Zotov.

The document also suggests carrying out a variety of themed events devoted to collection, storage and subsequent disposal of hazardous household waste in the republic contributing to the development of ecological culture and education.

"Eco-boxes enable us moving at the next stage - alignment of logistics, arrangement of procedures system between participants: management companies and citizens. Then the collection and disposal of hazardous waste will be absolutely clear, understandable, and conducted in civilized manner", the press-service of the agency quoted the Head of the Ministry of Ecology RB Ildar Hadyev.

Meanwhile, as noted by the "Eco-box" project manager Alexander Gusev, today Bashkortostan is one of the most active participants of this project. Since 2011 more than one thousand eco-boxes intended for safe disposal of mercury-containing lamps, batteries and thermometers have been installed in the republic.

"Increasing the number of eco-containers up to 10 thousand will improve the ecological situation in the region and will contribute to the reduction of diseases associated with ingestion of poisonous mercury vapours that are discharged at improper storage and disposal of hazardous waste", said Alexander Gusev.
