Bashkir and Cuban doctors will work together to fight diabetes

UFA, 11 February 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. Bashkir and Cuban doctors will work together to deal with diabetes. The issues of interaction were discussed in Ufa in the course of the meeting of the Minister of Health RB Anvar Bakirov with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in the Russian Federation Emilio Lozada Garcia.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Health RB, in particular, they talked about the treatment of patients with diabetes, the methods of treatment of the disease with use of modern drug therapy. Aspects of public-private partnership in this area were also mentioned.

"We talked about a unique medication that is used to treat foot ulcers in diabetics and thus helps to reduce the number of amputations in patients", Anvar Bakirov noted in the course of communication with the media.

Today in the republic there are more than 101 thousand patients with diabetes. Of these, 956 patients are with the syndrome of "diabetic foot". Treatment of the disease requires long-term hospitalization and rehabilitation, as well as leads to disability.

According to Emilio Lozada Garcia, the practice of the new drug application has shown that patients quality of life improved. The drug is produced since 2007, and in 80 percent of cases, it proved its effectiveness.

Currently, the drug is registered in 23 countries, in Russia – since 2014. Since 2016 the medication is included in the list of life-saving ones.

In Bashkortostan, this medicine is used in treatment of patients of department of purulent surgery of Republican Clinical Hospital named after G.G. Kuvatov. In most cases there is a positive track record.
