Restaurant is ready to hire waiters with hearing impairment in Bashkortostan

UFA, 18 December 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. In Bashkortostan, one of the Ufa restaurants of Italian and European cuisine is ready to employ persons with hearing disabilities as waiters. The interview was passed by five girls and one young man with hearing impairment. All of them will begin training at the restaurant next week. The project on employment of people with disabilities was initiated by Bashkir Republican Organization of the All-Russian Society for the Disabled.

Only two people will be employed in this restaurant, but as curator of the project Gulnara Nafikova said, full course of waiters training would allow young people to find work in the future in other catering establishments. The training will last up to one month.

In the near future, the restaurant plans to fully switch to electronic format of orders service. Today, many Russian restaurateurs introduce new technologies of interaction with clients. The introduction of mobile technologies enables to attract more visitors and increase revenues. In this context, the waiters with hearing disabilities will not differ from their healthy counterparts. The main requirements of employers are the desire to work, diligence, punctuality, communication skills, openness and amiability.

The practice of service in restaurants by the staff with disabilities is growing worldwide. For instance, in Palestine, in the Gaza Strip, the restaurant Atfaluna is not only for those with hearing problems, but the staff consists of such people. In the Italian city of Bologna restaurant «Senza nome» (translated as "Untitled") is also maintained and managed by deaf and is intended for deaf, although all comers invited to it. In Russia, an unusual service for customers is offered by the restaurant Dans Le Noire in Moscow and St. Petersburg, where people have dinner in total darkness, and the entire staff is constituted by blind people. Also in Moscow, the restaurant Sesto Senso offers service by waiters with hearing disabilities.
