Ten thousandth patient is examined in the network of PET centres in Ufa

According to the press service of the Ministry of Health RB, to date, the country has five centres of nuclear medicine in the territory of the regional oncology clinics in the cities of Ufa, Lipetsk, Tambov, Orel, Kursk. A set of surveys conducted there by positron emission tomography (PET) amounted to 10,000, and 6,000 of them were held in Ufa.

Positron emission tomography is an innovative technology in the diagnosis of cancer. Even millimeter tumour structure can be clearly recognized with it. Radiopharmaceutical is injected intravenously to scan a patient by PET. The administered drug accumulates in tumour tissues and helps to visualize the location of pathological focus on the computer scanner.

As the chief non-staff radiologist of the Russian Ministry of Health in the Volga Federal District Fagim Mufazalov reports, annually in the republic about 12-13 thousand patients with cancer are revealed.
